Sheffield Centre For Independent Living

Promoting choice, control and

inclusion for disabled people

Sheffield Centre for Independent Living

We are a membership and user led organisation, run and controlled by disabled people. We promote independent living for disabled people in Sheffield. By independent living we mean that disabled people have the same freedom and rights to exercise choice and control over their own lives as any other person.

Do you employ your own personal assistant?

Sheffield Centre for Independent Living is working with Skills for Care to promote some resources that are available to support your role as an Individual Employer of Personal Assistants. These include a Personal Assistant Toolkit, Training resources for your staff, and On-line registration (NMDS-SC) to support you as an employer - this would also provide access to funding to help train and develop your staff

Volunteer with Sheffield CIL Disability Information Service

You may be aware that our disability information service is delivered with the support of a small team of volunteers. Our volunteers are a great asset to the organisation and have been involved from the very start in shaping and delivering our information service.Three of our volunteers have recently moved into self employed and paid employment which is fantastic news for them and we wish them all the best for the future. It does mean that we are looking for new volunteers and we hope that you may consider volunteering with us yourself or you may know of someone who would be interested in this opportunity. We have developed three new role descriptions for volunteers

Please contact Val Bowen, Information Officer at Sheffield CIL on 0114 253 6748 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thank you for your testimonial Steven and good luck in your new job.
