Access to Elected Office Consultation

Disabled people are currently under-represented in public life and the Coalition Government has made a commitment to introduce “extra support” for disabled people “who want to become MPs, councillors or other elected officials”. This commitment follows the recommendations made by the cross-party Speaker’s Conference in January 2010 on how to improve the representation of women, disabled people and minority ethnic people in the House of Commons. Please find attached a consultation document  and an Easy Read version on access to elected office if you are interested in submitting your responses. The closing date for consultation is 11th May.
